Personally I like the mix of in-depth pieces and than pieces that include a lot of photos. We take so many photos that never see the light of day, but they deserve to be seen!
It is ni e to see pics of everyday life. I did a post on my blog once of my walking path from the campground we were staying in to Walmart. It was less than glamorous but showed all the interesting things I saw on my walk. Another thing I've done on my blog is to tell a different story in the captions of the pics than the text of the blog. I always love seeing photos. Keep them coming.
I for one really like when you do a series of photos, accompanied by a story (and the length is neither here nor there). I find Substack a pretty friendly place for multiple photos (and am right there with you in disliking the commercially coarsened side of the other channels.) Keep it up.
So to me, the goal was to highlight some of the life that exists in Puerto Vallarta and blend it with some of the more assumed elements (sunsets, beaches, etc). But I definitely didn't explain that reasoning!
I suspected that was the goal, just checking - and you shouldn’t explain the reasoning. That’s the art of photo collections. (I had to look twice at the adorable cat face!). Contrasting images in a collection can be so powerful; everyday life versus what tourists see, eat and enjoy; the different impacts behind the homeless crisis - ie, old, cheap housing being knocked down to make room for the big high-rises; corporate impacts and changes to pub culture, human connection…. You got me thinking. Bravo!
Agree with Steph- in depth writing is the the reason you started the Grog, and you’re writing is excellent. But she is also right that photos are great too, and add another dimension to the Grog that give depth to your writing .

Was that in PV as well?
Nice, brings me right back to Mexico. I love that country, and can't wait to get back.

Good to know! Thanks Tom, I appreciate it.
Curiosity question: the photos you selected, out of hundreds or more, why? What’s the story they tell you? Ps. Yes, you are a writer!

Thank you! The people have spoken haha
Just keep doing both and keep doing what you are doing!
