So gorgeous! Jealous of your Turkey Day tradition, though a good reminder we can always make new ones. The only traditions I've managed to implement have involved swapping out gift giving to each of my many in-laws with a Secret Santa. So much easier and usually pretty fun!

That cheese shot 💔 So evocative! Hmmm, this gets me thinking about traditions… Honestly my life has been so all over the place these past few years that there haven’t been many. But one I remember from Christmas celebrations as a family, is “The Greasy Tongs”… The name my brothers and I gave our pop-up breakfast “restaurant” to help my mom feel less stressed in the kitchen while hosting all of the seasonal festivities; we’d take over the cooking. I was always in charge of making the bacon, which was always a terrible idea

Thank you! Wow I love that, great story. Also the The Greasy Tongs totally sounds like the name of a diner or even a recipe blog haha

😆 New life goal, open The Greasy Tongs somewhere off Route 66!

As for the airport, how about a clue? You’ve left it pretty wide open. Don’t make me call Steph.

Our tradition is to not have a tradition … and I blame it all on my damned mother, who the moment she thought she spied something repeatable would exclaim, “It’s a new tradition!” I, determined to defy her cussed traditionalism, would then do all in my power never to repeat it. It’s a fucking vicious circle. I don’t want anything to do with tradition. What will we do that’s new this year?

Great article about the fulfillment and perspective of traditions and the folklore we create! Another post with such eloquently articulate writing, as always, I enjoyed reading and look forward to the next one! And, of course, I know I always say this but seriously, these pictures are STUNNING and need to be framed or in a magazine! Great captures!

Begrudgingly appreciate the start of your own traditions (as you suspected!). It is cool to think of what traditions carry-over and what are new. Mother-daughter “day after thanksgiving” trips to SF started before Steph started kindergarten. And continued through college. Who would’ve thought?! I still remember a fashion show of different hairstyles with her bright blond hair and blue eyes in our room at the St. Francis. Great article as always!

Thanksgiving and its food is TOTALLY overrated!!! Hard agree.

Traditions! It is good you and Steph are developing traditions of your own- I hadn’t looked at your Thanksgiving travel that way before, though we miss you guys ! I think you are right that they evolve by happening over time and are things that you enjoy and feel right to continue, like driving around looking at Christmas lights and visiting a brewpub Christmas Eve.

Our Thanksgiving was always shared with our cousins, but somehow we got out of that tradition once both of the main families got too big. Years went by, and I realized I really missed that tradition. So at Zach and Terra’s wedding, I proposed to Rich and Marika that we start it back up. And it was great fun to restart that tradition, and long overdue! So much great companionship rekindled, and so much great food that I couldn’t even try all the luscious dishes.

I realized I didn’t finish this article before and I missed your photos! Some really good ones here- everything in Eguisheim- what is with the teddy bears hanging on the buildings(?)- but especially the lone woman walking up the street in great lighting. And the twisted buildings! A beautiful sunset, rainbow, and ethereal lake. I like that kid looking at the cheese- more great lighting, and I think the red helmet makes the picture. And the contrast of the black figure in front of the colorful wall in Paris is striking. Keep up the good work!
